Oct. 26, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second-straight week and the third time this season, Texas Tech freshman forward Jessica Fuston was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performances against Iowa State and Missouri last weekend.
This week Fuston shared the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor with Danielle Nottingham of Missouri. Fuston has won the award more than any other newcomer this season.
"We have certainly seen Jess mature throughout the season," said head coach Tom Stone. "The transition to college is hard for everyone, especially for a back to pressure forward, but Jess has raised the level of her game and is playing her best soccer right now. We are thrilled that she has been recognized again by the Big 12 for her play."
The Cedar Park, Texas, recorded her first hat trick of her career as she scored all three goals in the 3-2 overtime win over Iowa State on Friday. Fuston ranks 56th nationally in goals per game. Fourteen of her 22 points on the season have come in conference play, while six of her team-high 10 goals are in league action.
The Red Raiders conclude the regular season on Fri., Oct. 29, at Baylor at 7 p.m. at the Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
