Oct. 31, 2006
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced freshman forward Brittney Harrison was named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Soccer Team. This is the first time Texas Tech has received this honor.
The Big 12 Conference announced its 11th annual All-Big 12 Soccer Teams on Tuesday. The awards are voted on by the league head coaches.
Harrison led the Red Raiders with goals (9), assists (3), shots (54) and shots on goal (29). She concluded the season tied for fifth for most goals recorded and most goals scored per game amongst all Big 12 athletes. The Plano, Texas, native was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the Big 12 conference earlier this season.
Harrison scored two goals against No. 17 Missouri on Sept. 29. Texas Tech defeated the nationally ranked Tigers, 3-1.
"This recognition is very well deserved, and I am proud for her," said head coach Neil McGuire. "Brittney has shown herself to be a threat in every game we played this season and her scoring record backs that up. She will continue to be a player who will score goals, but will of course now be watched more carefully by other teams and will have to learn to play while being targeted for special defensive marking."
Texas Tech concluded their season 7-11-2 overall and 2-7-1 in conference. The Red Raiders finished the season at No. 9 in the Big 12 Conference.
