Red Raiders Seeded Fifth in 2007 Big 12 Championship|
Nov. 3, 2007
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team finally knows when and who it will be playing next week in its first appearance in the Big 12 Championship since 1999. Thanks to a Kansas win Friday night, the Red Raiders will face No. 21 Missouri at 1:30 p.m. Wed., Nov. 7, at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium.
Tech's fifth place finish is the highest for a Red Raider squad since the 1996 team finished fourth. The Red Raiders finished the regular season 7-7-2, 5-4-1 in the Big 12.
"First of all, it is a tremendous accomplishment to have earned a spot in the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 1999," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "However, after winning five conference games, I think this team has a sense that they can achieve even more."
Missouri has won the last six of eight matchups with Tech, including a 2-0 victory earlier this season in Lubbock. The Red Raiders are currently 5-8 all-time against the Tigers, with Missouri winning the only Big 12 Championship match between the two schools, 3-2, in 1996.
"Missouri is a powerful team with tremendous speed and a great offense, definitely one of the best teams we have played all year," Stone said. "We go into the game the underdog, but that is nothing new for us. I expect our players to be ready for the challenge on Wednesday."
The winner will face either Texas A&M or Iowa State at 5:30 p.m. next Friday.
