LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team continues its historic 2012 season Friday night when Red Raiders face top-seeded Florida State in the second round of the NCAA Championships in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Red Raiders (16-5-1) enter the game fresh off a 2-0 shutout of North Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Senior Dawn Ward paced the Tech offense with two second half goals as the Red Raiders advanced into the round of 32 in their first ever NCAA Championships appearance.

Florida State (17-3-0), the ACC regular season champion, defeated Mississippi Valley State 6-0 last weekend to advance to the second round.

The Red Raiders finished third in the Big 12 before advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Friday's match will mark the first-ever between the two programs.

Notes:

Tech Sets Record For Wins in a Single Season
Texas Tech's 2-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma State to conclude the 2012 regular season broke
the school record for wins in a single season with 14. Tech enters the second round of the NCAA
Championships after earning its 16th victory of the season in a 2-0 shutout of North Texas in
first round of the NCAA Soccer Championships at the John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock.

Tech Earns First-Ever Vict ory in NCAA Championships
Texas Tech had never qualified for NCAA postseason play before the 2012 season. Though
finishing third in the Big 12 with a 5-2-1 conference record, and advancing to the semifinals of
the Big 12 Championships the Red Raiders earned their first NCAA Championships bid in school
history and hosted the first round at the John Walker Soccer Complex.

Victoria Esson Earns School Record 14th Career Shuout
Victoria Esson moved into the lead for career shutouts at Texas Tech with Saturday's 2-0 victory
over North Texas in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Esson, in just her second season
in front of the net for the Red Raiders, earned her 14th career shutout with the performance.
The Christchurch, New Zealand native has earned seven shutouts this season which matches
her total from last year and ties for second in school history for a single season.

Red Raiders Rolling
The Red Raiders enter the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championships as winners of four
of their last five games where they have outscored opponents 9-3 with three shutouts. Texas
Tech's only two losses since Sept. 23 have been to Baylor who ended the regular season No. 11
in the RPI.

Beckie Named Big 12 Rookie of the Year and Big 12 All-Tournament Tech
Sensational Texas Tech freshman Janine Beckie capped off her remarkable rookie campaign by
earning Big 12 Rookie of the Year honors as voted on by the league coaches. Beckie leads the
Red Raiders in scoring with 12 goals which paced all Big 12 freshmen and is the most by a
Texas Tech rookie since current teammate Dawn Ward netted 13 during her freshman campaign
in 2010. Beckie's Rookie of the Year honor marked the second by a Texas Tech freshman in
three years as Fuston was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 2010 following her stellar
freshman campaign.
Beckie became the first Texas Tech player to eclipse 100 shots in a single season as she paced
the conference with 113 on the season while sharing the team lead for game-winning goals
with five. She finished the regular season ranked in the top-three of the Big 12 in six separate
statistical categories.

Tech Unbeaten When Striking First in 2012
Striking first has been a key element for the high-power Red Raider offense during the 2012
season. In fact, the Red Raiders are remarkable 16-0-1 when scoring first this year including its
2-0 victory over Kansas at the Big 12 quarterfinals.
