LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team earned its first-ever national ranking Tuesday afternoon as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its final postseason poll.
After breaking a school record with 16 victories and reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Red Raiders appeared at No. 25 in the final poll of the 2012 season.
The national ranking comes on the heels of a banner season that saw the Red Raiders finish third in the highly-competitive Big 12 Conference, and advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament for the first time in program history.
Tech's impressive regular season earned the Red Raiders their first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament where they hosted North Texas at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Texas Tech shutout the Mean Green 2-0 before nearly knocking off top-seeded Florida State in the second round at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The Red Raiders fell to the Seminoles 3-2 in double-overtime before Florida State advanced to the Final Four.
Texas Tech finished the 2012 season with a 16-6-1 record, and had three players tabbed to the NSCAA All-Central Region team along with a school record four All-Big 12 First Team selections.
Meanwhile, freshman Janine Beckie became the program's first-ever All-America selection last week.
The Red Raiders shutout 10 opponents for the third consecutive season and went a nearly unblemished 9-1 at home this year.
