Red Raider softball team announces new signees
LUBBOCK, Texas - Second year head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie announced the signing of five athletes to the Red Raider softball team.
Outfielder Sandra Butler of Tucson, Ariz. played for Santa Rita High School and with the Roadrunners club team. Her high school team finished second in their conference and advanced to State competition during 1994 and 1995 seasons. Butler was selected to the 4A Sonoran Conference first team, the 4A Southern Arizona second team and All-Southern second team in 1995. Last season, she made the 4A Kino second team and was an All Southern Arizona Honorable Mention. Her club team competed in the National Tournament last season, where they took home a ninth place finish.
Pitcher Amanda Renfro of Lutheran High School in Houston, Texas was a an All-State selection and First team All-District pick in 1994 and 1995. In club play, her team advanced to the AFA National Tournament from 1993-95, and the ASA National Tournament in 1994 and 1995.
Kelly Armbruster of Abilene High was an All-District first team selection as a first baseman during her freshman and sophomore years. She was named team MVP and selected as an All-District first team pitcher in 1995.
Jennifer Beach of Belton High School was named team MVP and first team all-District as a freshman and sophomore. She was team co-MVP and received the Coaches Award and a first team All-District selection. In club action, Beach played for the Cen-Tex Babes who advanced to Nationals in 1995.
"Each of these girls brings something special to our program. They will be a great asset to the team and they will help solidify what we are trying to accomplish with the softball program. They are all very talented athletes who will grow academically and athletically at Texas Tech," Gillispie said.
