Martinez Receives Big 12 Softball Honors

DALLAS, Texas - Kim Martinez of Texas Tech was named Big 12 Softball Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the Big 12 Conference Office.

Martinez, a junior shortstop out of Sacramento, Calif. helped lead the Lady Red Raiders to a 9-1 mark last week at the Rebel Games in Orlando, Fla. In the 10-game stretch, Martinez was 22-of-29 from the plate, including five home runs and 17 RBI, and maintained a batting average of .759.

Prior to her season at Tech, Martinez was an All-America selection at Sacramento City College, where she was also a two-time all-region selection. Overall for her first season in Lubbock, Martinez is hitting .513 with nine home runs and 43 RBI.
