LUBBOCK, Texas - After being on the road since April 1, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will return to the Berl Huffman Complex to wrap up the 1997 regular season with conference games against Texas A&M and the University of Texas.
On Saturday, Tech will face Texas A&M in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Aggies are 32-25 on the season and 6-8 in Big 12 play. The Aggies hold a series record of 0-4 over Texas Tech. In their last game of the 1996 season, A&M defeated the Red Raiders in a close one, 4-3.
On Sunday, Tech will play their last series of the regular season as they host the Texas Longhorns in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Longhorns are currently 27-22 overall and 12-7 in Big 12 play. They will play Baylor on Saturday before traveling to Lubbock. Texas is led by Jodi Reeves, who is batting .351 on the season and .441 in Big 12 play. Christy Guidorizzi is the Longhorns' top pitcher. She has a record of 13-6 and an ERA of 2.06. She has struck out a team high 132 batters in 118.2 innings. This will mark the first regular season meeting between the two teams.
“This is a big weekend for us. Texas A&M and Texas are both good teams, but we can beat them if we play up to our potential. We have not had a particularly good season at home. We’d like to make up for that by winning all four games and ending the season on a positive note,” head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
The weekend games will help to solidify seedings in the big 12 Conference Tournament. The Championship will be held May 2-4 at the ASA Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Okla.
