Martinez Selected to All-Midwest Region Softball First Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior third baseman Kim Martinez was named to the All-Midwest Region softball first team today. She was one of eleven Big 12 players selected to the 12 positions. The only player chosen from outside the conference was outfielder Christy Lunceford of Creighton.

Martinez, an All-America candidate, led the Red Raiders and the Big 12 Conference in overall batting categories. She finished the year with a batting average of .492 and 15 home runs. She scored 56 runs and batted in 70. She had an on base percentage of .527 and a slugging percentage of .892. Martinez hit 21 doubles and four triples over the season. Martinez is also ranked nationally in batting average, home runs per game, doubles and runs batted in.

Earlier this season, Martinez was selected to the All-Big 12 second team in the third base position.

"This is a great honor for Kim. She worked hard this year and it is nice to see her efforts rewarded. We couldn't be more pleased for her. She is a great third baseman who will continue to improve," Texas Tech head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
