Red Raider Softball Team Demolishes Texas-Permian Basin
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team recorded 33 hits, 37 runs and only one error in two victories over the University of Texas-Permian Basin. Tech won the first contest 18-0 and one bettered the score in a 19-0 second game rout.
In the first game, Tech scored two runs in the first, before exploding in the second with 8 runs. They went on to score four more in the third and fourth innings. Shortstop Kim Martinez started off with a triple in the first, followed by a homerun in the second, a homerun in the third and a single in the fourth. She had six RBIs for the game. Designated player Ellen Middleton hit three singles and a triple. Danielle Brady picked up her 16th win of the season.
The second game was much like the first. The Red Raiders scored 10 runs in the first, four in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. Middleton recorded two doubles and a single, while Martinez had a double that scored one run. Pitcher Emily Hayes improved her record to 10-8 on the season
"It was a great evening for us. Our offensive was set on go and our defense was tough. We needed this kind of game to gives us some confidence before continuing our Big 12 games," Texas tech head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
Texas Tech, who is now 33-19-1 on the season will travel to Stillwater to play Oklahoma State in a doubleheader on Saturday. The following day they will face Oklahoma in another Big 12 doubleheader. Both series will begin at noon.
