April 13, 1997 Red Raiders Get First Conference WinCEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Behind the bat and arm of NU junior Christie McCoy, the Nebraska softball team split a doubleheader Sunday with Texas Tech. The Red Raiders won the opener 8-5, but McCoy led the Huskers to a 5-2 win in the nightcap. In the first game, Texas Tech (34-24-1) took the early lead and never looked back, pounding the Huskers (16-16, 3-3) with nine hits and eight runs. The victory was the first conference win of the year for Texas Tech. Emily Hayes earned the win for the Red Raiders, her 11th of the season. McCoy was the star of the second game. The junior transfer from the College of San Mateo picked up her third win of the year, going the distance from the hill. She also helped her own cause by belting two home runs and driving in four runs. McCoy now leads all Husker batters wtih six homers this season.
