Tech Ends Regular Season With Two Losses
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team ended their 1997 regular season with shutout losses of 3-0 and 6-0.
The Texas Longhorns scored their first run of the opening game in the top of the third inning. They followed that with runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. Tech was stagnant on offense as they recorded only one hit for the game. Emily Hayes took the loss, while Christy Guidorizzi got the win.
The second game of the doubleheader was somewhat better offensively for Tech, but defensively, the Red Raiders couldn't stop the Longhorns hit parade. Texas scored one run in the second, two runs in the third and picked up a three run homer in the fourth. The Red Raiders got some offensive power from All-America candidate Kim Martinez and infielder Kim Tillett, who both hit doubles. Danielle Brady picked up her 12th loss of the season while Nece Ahumada recorded the win.
The losses bring Tech's final Big 12 Conference record to 1-13, while their overall mark goes to 34-28-1. Their next games will be in the Big 12 Conference Tournament set to begin on Thursday at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla.
