Player Profile
Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
First Season

Amy Hanson begins her first full season as a Red Raider assistant coach in the 2007 season after joining the program in the same capacity just before the Big 12 portion of last year's campaign. She brings a wealth of experience to the team as both a successful softball player at a major program as well as an established instructor and coach developing softball players. At Tech, Hanson oversees the team's hitting and mental preparation, and assists in the recruiting process. Prior to coming to Lubbock, Hanson spent the past several years as a softball instructor for individuals and teams ranging from ages 8-18 in the Seattle, Wash., area as co-owner of her own softball/baseball academy (with Suiter).

No stranger to head coach Teresa Wilson and her coaching style, Hanson played for three seasons under Wilson as a catcher at the University of Washington. Many considered her as one of the nation's elite catchers, in part because of her ability to work with pitchers. She helped the Huskies make two appearances in the Women's College World Series. From 2000-2003, Hanson played in 120 games at UW and served as team captain during a part of that time. She left just prior to the season when her degree was complete. The Mount Vernon, Wash., native received several individual accolades during her collegiate playing days, including Most Improved (2001), Team MVP (2002) and Golden Glove Award (2003). Hanson graduated in 2004 with her bachelor's degree in psychology.

While at Tech, Hanson is pursuing both her master's and doctorate degrees.
