Larry Munger serves as the athletic trainer for the Red Raider softball team as well as overseeing sports medicine for Texas Tech men's and women's tennis and caring for staff when they get injured. Munger has an extensive background in both education and as an athletic trainer. He received his bachelor of science in education and sport science with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Kansas. He obtained his master's degree at the Arizona School of Health Sciences (1997) and is currently persuing a doctor of philosophy, family, and consumer science education at Tech.

He is a certified athletic trainer by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc.; a licensed athletic trainer by the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers through the Texas Department of Health; and a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. In addition to NATA and NSCA, he is a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

Munger has gained experience working in various athletic training settings which inclue: Major League Baseball, NFL Europe, Major League Soccer, Collegiate, High Shool Outreach and Sports Medicine Clinics. In May 2002, he accepted a position of Assistant Professor/ Clinical Education Coordinator at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the Master of Athletic Training Program. In the fall of 2005, he decided to return to working with athletes and accepted an athletic trainer position in the Tech Athletic Department.

He and his wife - assistant strength and conditioning coach Katie Munger who also works with softball - are avid cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts. The couple lives in Lubbock with a pair of terrific dogs, Marley and Sooner, who keep the couple entertained.
