SOPHOMORE SEASON (2014)
Followed up her successful freshman season with a strong sophomore campaign ... was Texas Tech's starting shortstop in all 54 games ... was the only Red Raider to start at the same position in every game ... gives her 110-consecutive starts to begin her collegiate career ... one of just a handful of Red Raiders all-time to start in every game her first two seasons ... hit .287 on the season with nine doubles, two triples, a pair of home runs and 19 RBI ... struck out only 13 times in 148 at-bats ... marked fewest strikeouts among regular position starters ... came across to score 31 times, second most on the team ... hit for more power as a sophomore with increased numbers in doubles, triples and home runs ... totaled 61 bases en route to a .412 slugging percentage ... also posted a .329 on-base percentage as well ... finished fourth on the team with five stolen bases ... helped Tech snap the single-season school record for stolen bases as a team ... successful at moving runners from various spots in the lineup with seven sacrifice hits and two sacrifice flies ... ranked second on the team with nine total sacrifices ... recorded 10 multiple-hit games which tied for third on the team ... also posted five multiple-RBI performances as well ... best outing at the plate came early in the year with a 3-for-4 day against Northern Colorado on Feb. 14 ... three hits matched her career high ... drove in a pair of RBI in the victory as well ... was the first of three multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI performances during the Troy Cox Classic ... also went 2-for-3 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi the following day and then finished with three RBI in the nightcap against Weber State ... wrapped the tournament by going 2-for-3 with two RBI against host New Mexico State ... also went 2-for-3 against Canisius (March 14) and North Texas (March 19) to close out non-conference play ... IN BIG 12 PLAY ... compiled a .309 average in league action that ranked third on the team ... finished 17-for-55 at the plate ... marked second-straight season to hit over .300 against conference pitching ... both of her home runs and four of her doubles came in league action ... ranked second on the team with a .491 slugging percentage ... also stole three of her five bases on the year against league foes ... finished second on the team with five multiple-hit performances, three of which that came in a three-game span against Oklahoma State and Kansas (April 12-17) ... previously went 2-for-4 on April 5 against Texas ... connected on her first home run of the season with a solo shot in the fifth inning against the Longhorns ... home run broke up a 4-4 tie at the time ... added her final home run of the season with a two-run blast in the April 27 series finale against Iowa State ... finished 2-for-3 overall against the Cyclones ... went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the final two games of the Oklahoma State series ... recorded a double in both of those outings as well ... defensively, failed to record an error in 10 of the final 11 games of the season ... FRESHMAN SEASON (2013)
Recorded one of the best freshmen seasons in school history ... hit .311 during rookie campaign ... marked just the sixth time a Red Raider starting freshman had hit .300 or better in a season ... joined Mikey Kenney (2010), Stephanie Drewry (2009), Ashley Parker (2004), Sandy Butler (1998), and Paula Workman (1997) has the only starting freshmen in school history to hit over .300 ... did so while starting in all 56 games ... started 34 games at second base and the other 22 at shortstop ... one of three Red Raiders to start and play in every game ... big part of an offense that hit .301 as a team, marking just the second time in school the Red Raiders have surpassed the .300 mark ... finished with 47 hits while scoring 34 times ... totaled 58 bases off six doubles, a triple and a home run ... also reached eight times via walks and once by a hit by pitch for a .350 on-base percentage ... her 34 runs scored ranked fourth on the team ... quick on the bases with eight stolen bases off nine attempts ... only struck out 15 times on the year, second-lowest total for a Tech position starter ... recorded 10 multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI performances ... notched her first career hit Nov. 10 with a single against DePaul ... followed up with her first career multiple-hit game a few days later with a 2-for-3 performance on Feb. 15 against Colorado State ... connected on a season-high three hits Feb. 22 against Texas State ... was the first of four games with three hits on the season ... also totaled three hits against McNeese State (March 1), Seton Hall (March 15), and Baylor (May 4) ... ended the year with 19 RBI, six of which that came in back-to-back days against IPFW and UMKC ... drove in what amounted to be a season high three RBI against IPFW on March 9 and then followed up with another three RBI the following day against UMKC ... played two runs off a third-inning single against IPFW ... was the second of three game-winning RBI performances ... two runs against UMKC came off a second-inning solo home run ... marked her first collegiate home run ... IN BIG 12 PLAY ... led the Red Raiders with a .275 batting average during league action ... finished 14-for-51 at the plate with eight runs scored, a double and a triple ... posted a .327 on-base percentage and a .333 slugging percentage ... added five RBI from the bottom part of the lineup ... totaled three multiple-hit games ... went 2-for-3 in the second game of the Iowa State series (April 20) ... finished with five hits in the season-ending Baylor series ... went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the series opener and then 3-for-4 with a RBI in the finale ... marked her lone multiple-RBI game during conference play ... performance in the finale pushed her over a .300 season average as she entered with a .299 clip for the year ... started the final 14 games of the year at shortstop ... AWARDS AND HONORS ... recognized for work in classroom as part of Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team ... one of 383 conference student-athletes honored across all sports ... was just one of 22 freshmen recognized for a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
TEMECULA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
Four-year letterwinner with the Golden Bears ... was one of the top middle infielders in the state of California out of high school ... helped lead Temecula to the playoffs in each of her final three seasons ... squad was the CIF Division II runner-up in 2010 ... received numerous all-league and scholastic honors during her four seasons ... hit .408 as a senior with a .415 on-base percentage despite working through two injuries during the year ... had previously hit .470 as a junior with eight doubles and 35 runs scored ... earned defensive MVP and offensive MVP team honors during her career ... played on the 2012 Riverside County All-Star team ... graduated summa cum laude ... member of the school's distinguished honor roll and principal's golden honor roll.
Played for the Next Level travel team out of California ... team won the 2011 16U ASA Nationals ... also won the 16U state championship in 2011 ... followed that by claiming the 18U Champions Cup in 2012.
Samantha Camello ... born Oct. 11, 1994, to parents Mike and Sue Camello ... has four older siblings, Michael, Jessica, Jim and Matt ... older sister Jessica starred at San Diego State from 2008-11 where she still ranks among the school's all-time greats in both batting average and on-base percentage ... general studies major.
