Final Stats

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team dropped its season opener 7-2 to the Oregon Ducks in the third game of B&G Properties Tournament on the campus of Southwest Texas State University.

The Ducks used a three-run four-hit third inning to knock out starting pitcher Maggie Ayres and build a 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

Transfer Kristi Robles walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth followed by Carmen Grindell's second single of the day to start a Tech comeback. After Andrea Joachim's fly out to right Eva Harshman hit a dribbler to third that was misplayed loading up the bases for freshman Lisa Lawler who was in at catcher for an injured Ashley Ready. Lawler singled to center scoring Robles followed by Britney Stolle's sac fly which scored Grindell cutting the deficit in half.

In the sixth Oregon sent eight batters to the plate and scored three more runs upping its lead to 7-2, Tech would not score again in the contest.

Grindell went 3-for-3 with three singles to lead the way for the Red Raiders. Amie Stines entered the game in the third inning in relief of starter Ayres going four innings giving up three runs on seven hits.

Tech's record falls to 0-1 while Oregon improves to 1-1. Tech will close out the first day of action in San Marcos, Texas playing #17 Southwest Texas State. The game marks Bobby Reeves' first game at Bobcat Field since leaving SWT to coach at Tech two years ago.
