Brittany Talley got the ball in her first collegiate start, going 6.2 innings with 5 runs, four of which were earned, while striking out four batters. The freshman allowed no walks and came an out away from the complete game.
Ashley Brokeshoulder came in for a solid relief appearance, getting the final out in the seventh inning to force extra innings. Brokeshoulder appeared at the top of the eighth but did not get an out before being replaced by Kermitria Ward.
Playing against her former school, Cydney Allen got off to a solid start in a Red Raider uniform, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored.
Emily Bledsoe had Tech's other multiple-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with the game-winning RBI in the top of the ninth.
The game was only the second between the two schools. The Red Raiders improved to 2-0 all-time against BYU with the first matchup dating back to the 2001 season.
The Red Raiders have won the season opener in each of the past three seasons, including the last two under second-year head coach Shanon Hays.
