HONOLULU - The Texas Tech fastpitch softball team earned their second win of the season Saturday afternoon when they defeated Hofstra 3-2 in play at the Chevron Paradise Classic by a score of 3-1. The win brings Tech to 2-9 on the year and 2-3 in the tournament. It is Tech's second consecutive win. The Red Raiders defeated Texas 4-0 earlier in the day.

Texas Tech started out on fire. Shauna Briggs sent a 2-2 pitch out of the park with two runners on in the first inning to make the score 3-0 quickly. It was all Tech would need as the pitching combination of Dana Yocum and Amanda Renfro kept the team on top. Yocum was credited with the victory and is now 1-2 on the year. Renfro was credited with her first save.

Hofstra began chipping away at the Tech lead in the fourth inning when Sasha Blake scored om third for the Flying Dutchwomen on a wild pitch. The Dutchwomen threatened again in the fourth. With the bases loaded and two out, Amanda Renfro was inserted to pitch to Hofstra's Alicia Smith. Smith hit a fly ball directly to Sandy Butler in centerfield for the put out and the threat was averted.

Hofstra threatened again in the seventh. A run scored after a throwing error by rightfielder Tiffany Harrington to make the score 3-2. However, Renfro struck out the final batter looking to put the game away.

The Red Raiders will meet Hofstra again on Sunday when they meet in the first round of bracket play on the tournament's final day.
