Comeback Bid Falls Short|
Feb. 16, 2008
TEMPE, Ariz. - Facing a four-run deficit after Mother Nature forced play to be suspended Friday night, Texas Tech mounted a comeback that came up short, falling to the Memphis Tigers (3-3) 5-3 Saturday morning.
With the loss, Tech fell to 0-5 on the young season. Montana Patin went 1-3 with a homerun, her first of the season, and Leah Legler went 1-4 with an RBI to help lead the way for Tech. Sarah Losleben (0-2) picked up the loss in the circle for the Red Raiders. Ashly Jacobs struck out five in four scoreless innings of relief.
When play resumed Saturday morning in the bottom of the third, Memphis held a 4-0 while Tech had two on and no outs. The Red Raiders where unable to put anything across and the Tigers pushed their lead to 5-0 with a run in the top of the fourth. Patin's shot to right center cut the deficit to 5-1.
After Jacobs put Memphis away in the next two innings, Tech stormed back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. It would not be enough, however, as the Tigers put away the final out to take the win.
The Red Raiders will play two more games today, taking on Utah at 6:15 p.m. and California right after at 8:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action on www.texastech.com.
