SAN MARCOS, Texas - North Texas broke up a 2-2 tie with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to snap Texas Tech's five-game winning streak Friday evening with a 5-3 victory at Bobcat Stadium.

The loss dropped the Red Raiders (8-4) to 1-1 in the Texas Shootout after defeating host Texas State, 6-1, in the tournament opener earlier in the day.

"It was a disappointing loss," Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "We left too many runners on base and made a few mistakes in the field that cost us. We have to regroup tonight, though, and play well tomorrow."

The Mean Green (6-7) took the lead off a three-base Tech fielding error to start the fifth inning that later resulted in a run off a Tori Bice sacrifice fly. Jackie Miller and Jordan Terry provided two insurance runs an inning later with back-to-back RBI doubles to center.

The Red Raiders recovered to load the bases in the bottom half of the sixth but a runners interference call on Mikey Kenney at first discarded what would have been two runs off a North Texas fielding error.

Instead, Tech settled for just one run off a Sandy James bases-loaded walk as Adriana Perez flew out to center to end the inning with the bases still loaded. The Red Raiders stranded 10 runners total in the game.

Tech had previously scored off a Sydnie Tapis RBI single in the second and an Adriana Perez RBI double in the third. It marked the eighth-straight game where Perez had at least one RBI.

Terry originally gave North Texas the lead in the second as Terry drove a two-run homer to left field off Tech starter Brittany Talley. Terry finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a game-high three RBI.

Talley (4-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, four of which were earned, off five hits in 6.1 innings. Ashley Brokeshoulder relieved her briefly in the sixth before Talley returned with one out in the seventh.

Tori Bice (2-0), meanwhile, picked up the win after giving up the two early runs, both unearned, off five hits over 4.1 innings. She was relieved by Lauren Poole and Brittany Simmons, who earned a save after tossing the final two innings.

The Red Raiders continue the Texas Shootout with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader against UT Arlington and Sam Houston State. Tech will face the Mavericks at 1:30 p.m. and then the Bearkats at 5:30 p.m.
