Texas Tech Closes Weekend With 7-1 Win Over Howard|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Cydney Allen crushed her seventh home run of the season as No. 19 Texas Tech closed the Red Raider Classic with a 7-1 victory over Howard Sunday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.
Despite giving up its first run of the weekend against the Bison, Tech (22-0) outscored its opposition, 54-1, over six games of the Red Raider Classic as the finale was the only game to go longer than five innings.
"I thought we honestly played well all weekend," Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "All five of our pitchers threw well and threw strikes, and our lineup top to bottom had significant hits in each game. We will obviously have a bigger test Wednesday against New Mexico, but we just have to take it one game at a time and take it from there."
After Tech broke the school record earlier in the day for most consecutive innings without allowing a run, Howard put a quick end to the streak as Brittany Barker delivered a bases-loaded single through the right side to give the Bison an early 1-0 lead.
Tech starter Brittany Talley settled down from there, though. Talley, who threw a five-inning no-hitter against Dayton on Friday, worked out of the jam, getting Samantha Gatson to fly out to Stephanie Drewry in left field to end the inning.
After two scoreless innings for both teams, Allen delivered a two-out, three-run home run over the wall in left field to give Tech some breathing room with a 5-1 lead. The homer was Allen's second of the day as she also added a solo shot in Tech's first game against Dayton.
Raven Richardson belted a solo home run of her own to lead off the fifth inning, taking an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left field for the junior's third dinger of the weekend.
Tech added one more run in the bottom of the sixth off a RBI double by Taylor Powell which allowed Emily Bledsoe to score from second. Bledsoe led off the inning with a single and moved over to second after a throwing error on shortstop Rebecca Kirshner.
Talley (7-0) earned the win for Tech in the circle, pitching six complete innings while allowing a run off four hits to go along with a season-high seven strikeouts. Kermitria Ward pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief.
Emily Johnson (1-4) took the loss for Howard after giving up six runs, three of which were earned, off seven hits in four innings of work. Howard (3-8) finished the Red Raider Classic 0-5 overall.
The Red Raiders begin the final week of their 25-game homestand on Wednesday with a doubleheader against New Mexico. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
