No. 19 Texas Tech Rebounds With 8-0 Shutout Of Evansville|
March 11, 2011
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's offense came roaring back to life in a big way in the second game of a split doubleheader against Evansville as the Red Raiders belted three home runs and two doubles in an 8-0, five-inning win over the Purple Aces.
The win pushed Texas Tech's season record to 25-1 while Evansville dropped to 2-12. The hot bat of Cydney Allen resurrected the Red Raider offense as she went 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs, one walk and four RBIs. Allen's offensive production helped wash away a two-run, six hit performance in 4-2 loss to Alcorn State in the first game of this doubleheader. Six other Red Raiders added a hit in the effort while Stephanie Drewry and Sandy James also contributed RBIs.
Texas Tech staked a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but put the game out of reach with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the second. In the second, Allen belted the second of her two, two-run home runs and Sandy James followed her with a solo shot that gave Tech the 8-0 lead. The back-to-back home runs by Allen and James, alongside strong pitching down the stretch by Kelsey Dennis, sealed the win after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Dennis's five-inning shutout gave her the win and she improved to 7-0 while Emily Morris (1-5) was tagged with the loss for Evansville after giving up eight runs on seven hits over 1 2/3 innings.
Texas Tech returns to action tomorrow afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field beginning at 1 p.m. Texas Tech will face Evansville at 1 p.m. and Alcorn State at 3 p.m.
