LUBBOCK, Texas - No. 19 Texas Tech scored 15 runs in the first three frames and ran away with a 15-0 shutout of Alcorn State in five innings in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.

With the win, Texas Tech avenged a 4-2 setback to the Lady Braves on Friday and improved to 27-1 overall while Alcorn State dropped to 7-8.

Texas Tech rang up three early runs in the bottom half of the first inning and then put the game away with an eight-run outburst in the second. Tech's eight-run second inning included nine hits and three defensive errors by the Lady Braves. All eight runs scored by Tech were charged as earned.

In the fifth, shortstop Raven Richardson mashed a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Red Raiders the 15-0 lead. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Karli Merlich picked up the win in relief of Kelsey Dennis as she tossed three scoreless frames, allowing just one walk, no hits and struckout three.

Texas Tech returns to action at noon on Sunday to face Alcorn State followed by Evansville at 3 p.m.
