SANTEE, Calif. - Gretchen Aucoin tossed a four-hit shutout to help extend Texas Tech's winning streak to 10-straight Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 run-rule victory of Buffalo at the Santee Sports Complex.
The victory improved the Red Raiders (24-8) to 3-0 so far in the San Diego State Classic heading into the finale of a doubleheader against the host Aztecs. Tech is also 5-0 during its week-long stay in Southern California.
Aucoin (5-0) earned her first win of the trip as she picked up right where she left off from Friday where she collected two saves and did not allow a hit over four innings of relief.
The right-hander held Buffalo hitless through two innings and struck out eight, one off her season high, in her first career shutout. It was also her third-straight start where she has gone the distance as well.
She got some run support in the third with a pair of two-out hits from Katelyn Williams and Lexie Elkins. Williams easily scored Shelby Johnson with a RBI single through the right side and Elkins followed with a two-run double to the gap in left center.
Aucoin helped her own cause in the fifth with a two-run double to left field that brought in two of Tech's five runs in the inning. Aucoin recorded her fourth multiple-hit game this year with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate to go along with a walk.
Taylor Powell changed places with Aucoin moments later in the sixth with a RBI double of her own and then scored off a single from Samantha Camello. Shelby Johnson added Tech's final RBI with a single up the middle that ended the game.
Dani Cowan picked up the loss for Buffalo as she gave up six runs off nine hits and four walks over 4.1 innings before giving way to Nicole Aviles, who allowed the final two runs in the fifth.
