LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Cara Custer recovered from two early runs for her 11th victory this year as Texas Tech rallied to edge Boise State, 3-2, Saturday morning in the first game of a doubleheader at Eller Media Stadium.

The Red Raiders (26-11), who trailed by two after three innings, scored a run in the fifth off a Sandy James RBI single and then two more in the sixth off a Taylor Powell sacrifice fly and then a wild pitch.

James finished with two of Tech's four hits off Boise State (13-16) starter Lela Work as she also singled to lead off the second inning. Mikey Kenney and Sydnie Tapia also had hits for the Red Raiders as well.

The one-run lead was enough for Custer (11-4), who gave up just two of Boise State's six hits over the final 4.1 innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked one before Brittany Talley came on to record the final two outs for her first save of the season.

Boise State got on the board in the first with a RBI single from Makenna Weir, who also grounded out to second in the third to bring in the final run. The Broncos left six runners on base, including one in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Work (4-4) took the loss for Boise State in a complete-game effort where she did not allow an earned run off four hits. She also struck out four and walked one.

Tech and Boise State are currently in the midst of game two of their doubleheader. This is Tech's final game of the Rebel Classic.
