Texas Hands Tech Another Big 12 Loss, 7-0|
March 26, 2009
AUSTIN - Brittany Barnhill stymied Texas Tech hitters and went the distance picking up her 13th win of the season as Texas handed the Red Raiders a 7-0 loss in Austin. Tech falls to 10-27, 0-5, while Texas improves to 24-11, 2-1 in Big 12 play.
Ashly Jacobs (7-14) took the loss for the Red Raiders as the junior struggled in the first two innings, issuing six walks and three, two-run hits, two of them doubles. Alex Watkins came on in relief and, for the most part, settled the Longhorn bats, but did give up a solo home run to Alexis Bennett in the fourth.
Barnhill was perfect through four and a third when Megan Shupp drilled a double to the wall in left center. Holley Gentsch reached on an infield error to mount a small threat, but Barnhill was up to the challenge and retired the final two batters in the frame.
Texas Tech will take an uncomfortably early flight to Ames, Iowa tomorrow morning in order to face the Cyclones over weekend games set for 2 p.m. on Saturday and Noon on Sunday. Follow all the action at www.texastech.com.
Note: The reference to uncomfortable relates to the 6:00 a.m. flight that we will be taking from Austin to Des Moines. If you do not here from either MacGuyver or the Old Gal for a few days, we're likely sleeping.
