March 28, 2007
LUBBOCK, Texas - Susan Waters hit her 13th blast of the season, a 3-run shot, and knocked in another run to lead North Texas (13-22) to a 4-1 non-conference win over Texas Tech (17-17) in softball action at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock.
The Lady Eagles posted a run in the third off Tech starter Ashly Jacobs (13-10) when, with one out, Katya Mueller singled to left, moved to second on a single by Monica Garcia and scored on a Waters' single. Sarah Losleben came on to relieve Jacobs. Waters' 3-run shot came in the top of the fifth again after one-out singles by Mueller and Garcia.
Texas Tech pushed a run across in the bottom of the fifth when Heather Parker knocked a single into left, stole second and scored when her sister, Ashley Parker, drilled a double into left center field. But Ashley Lail (8-8) settled down and ended the Red Raiders' threat.
North Texas out-hit Tech, 9-6, on the blustery day in the Hub City.
Texas Tech travels to Nebraska to resume Big 12 conference play over the weekend in Lincoln.
