Red Raider Softball Sweeps Eastern New Mexico in Doubleheader|

LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman Jennifer Corkin hit her first collegiate career grand slam in the 19-1 win over Eastern New Mexico in game two of the doubleheader. Corkin went 6 for 7 with 11 RBI for the day and the Red Raiders held the Zias to only two runs total for both games. Tech is now 20-11 on the season and remains 0-2 in Big 12 play.
In game two Tech won 19-1 on 20 hits in five innings of play and held the Zias scoreless through four innings.
Eastern New Mexico posted their solo run in the first inning on a homerun from sophomore Tori Picazo.
The Red Raiders posted five runs in the first inning to take the lead. The scoring started when senior Kelly Rhyne doubled to left field scoring senior Natalie Enderlin who reached base on a double also to left field. Sophomore Brandy Moulin singled through the left side scoring Corkin who was walked during her plate appearance.
Freshman Whitney Riley reached on a fielders choice by the pitcher as a play was trying to be made at home plate, but Rhyne was able to score on an error by the pitcher. Freshman Jennifer Bowers followed with a sacrifice fly to right field allowing Moulin to score and sophomore Heather Parker reached on an error by right field allowing Riley to score.
In the second inning, the Red Raiders scored six runs and Corkin started off the scoring as she crossed the plate as Moulin doubled to right center. Riley followed with a triple also to right center scoring Moulin and then Bowers doubled down the right field line to score Riley. Corkin came up to bat again in the inning to double to left center and score Ashley Parker who walked and Kula who doubled down the left field line.
Tech scored seven more runs in the third inning to seal the victory. The Red Raiders loaded the bases and the Zia pitcher walked H, Parker walking in Moulin for a score. Kula reached on a fielders choice by third base and Amanda Oakes and Bowers scored on the play a home and an error by the catcher. The Red Raiders loaded the bases again and Corkin smashed her first grand slam of her collegiate career to bring the Red Raiders to their final score of 19-1.
The Red Raiders were also victorious in game one as the defeated the Zias 10-1 in five innings and 11 hits.
Tech scored in the first inning as Corkin nailed a homerun over left center scoring designated player Ashley Parker. A, Parker led off the inning for the Red Raiders with a single to the shortstop.
The Red Raiders held the Zias to three scoreless innings and ENMU put up their only run in the fourth inning.
Tech scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the lead to 10-1. A, Parker led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base during senior Natalie Enderlin's at bat. Enderlin was also walked. Corkin singled to center field and knocked in A, Parker and Enderlin and then Corkin advanced to third on the play. Rhyne doubled to center field scoring Corkin and Bowers singled up the middle to advance Rhyne to third.
Kula singled to center field scoring Rhyne and advanced Bowers to second. H, Parker followed with a double to left field scoring Bowers and advancing Kula to third. Senior Lisa Lawler walked and then during pinch hitter Heather Freeman's at bat, all three runners on base advanced on a pass ball as Kula scored. Freeman walked and Enderlin reached on a fielders choice by shortstop as she knocked in H, Parker, but Lawler was out at third. Tech posted one more run as Corkin singled to right field and batted in Freeman.
The Red Raiders travel to Iowa St. to pick up conference play on Sat., April 2 at 2 p.m. and Sun., April 3 at noon.
