Nebraska Scores Early and Often in 6-0 Win
April 1, 2007
LINCOLN, Neb. - A significantly different line up produced no significant difference in results, as Texas Tech (17-18, 0-4) dropped the opening game of a doubleheader, 5-0, to Nebraska (25-11, 1-2) in Big 12 softball action in Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday morning. Ashly Jacobs (13-11) took the loss for the Red Raiders as the freshman gave up six runs on 11 hits. It was the fifth consecutive loss for Texas Tech, the longest losing streak of the season. Molly Hill improved to 12-6 with the win. Nebraska scored a pair in the bottom of the second when Devin Porter hit a one-out wind-aided triple to right center. After another out, Darcy Rutherford was plunked by a Jacobs' pitch. Both came around to score on a double to the wall in right center by third baseman Carmen Kier. The Cornhuskers added a run in the third when, with one out, Crystal Carwile singled, moved to second on a walk to Jamie Waldecker and scored on a single down the left field line by Brittany Pascale. The Huskers put up two more in the fourth on hits by Whitney Barrett, Meghan Mullin and Carwhile and added another in the sixth on a lead off walk to Kier and a double by Carwile, who picked up her third RBI of the game. Ashley Parker, making her first start in two seasons at catcher, doubled off the top of the wall with two outs in the fifth. The shot, which missed going out by less than six inches, bounced off the top of the fence back into play holding her to the double and typified the unlucky breaks the Red Raiders had in the game. Tech left eight runners on and tallied eight hits, which was the season high given up by Hill to this point. Other line up changes included Leah Legler with her first start at second, Alex Watkins at third, Whitney Riley in center field and Devin Zaragoza filling the designated player role.
NOTE: Issues with GameTracker, which we believe are related to an inappropriate time change within a server somewhere, have made the GameTracker feature dissapear prior to the opening pitch of game 2. The Nebraska Web site is also experiencing similar difficulty with its audio feature, but are continuing to attempt to broadcast. Viewers may also try looking into game stats via the Husker Web site (www.Huskers.com) and clicking on LiveStats, which is similar to GameTracker. |
