Final Stats

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tamara Poppe hit an 0-1 Kristina Blair offering to center that hit off Esmerelda Perez's glove and then off the top of the fence and over giving the Longhorns a 3-2 win in eight innings in the first game of Wednesday afternoon's Big 12 doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech (12-25, 1-12 Big 12) wasted no time jumping on the 16th ranked Texas Longhorns with two runs on three hits in the first inning. With one out, senior Rebecca Eimen got the first of three consecutive Red Raider hits capped off by Jana Baker's RBI single to left. Tech would extend its lead to 2-0 on a passed ball that allowed Kristi Robles to score from third.

Texas (38-10, 11-1 Big 12) tried to answer in the top of the second as Wynter Turner led off the inning with a single and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Melissa Martin then singled to shallow left field. With runners on the corners, Alexis Garcia hit a swinging bunt that was picked up by Baker who tagged out Turner trying to score. Marlo Hanks stuck out looking to end the Longhorn threat.

The Longhorns would break through in the third aided by a pair of Red Raider errors. With one out, Erin Mahoney singled and advanced to second as Sarah Wieszczak walked. Deeanna Williams then reached on an error by left fielder Eva Harshman that loaded the bases. Wynter hit a come-backer that cut down Mahoney at home, but on the attempted double play the throw to first hit Wynter allowing Weiszczak to score from second. Tamara Poppe singled to right scoring Williams and knotting the game up at 2-2.

Blair went the distance allowing just one earned run while scatting eight hits in a losing effort while Cat Osterman pitched seven innings striking out 12 and allowing just one earned run and the win. Amy Bradford pitched the eighth earning her fifth save of the season.
