OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Dominique VanNortwick went 2 for 2 at the plate including one homerun and two RBI to help lead the Cowgirls to an 8-0 victory over the Red Raiders in the play-in game and game one of the Big 12 Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City. Tech finishes the season 23-25 overall and 3-15 in Big 12 while OSU advances to 33-20 on the season.

Senior Kelly Rhyne posted the only two hits for the Red Raiders as she smashed a double through the left side in the third inning. Rhyne got another hit as she dropped the ball in right center but was chased down between second base and first base.

Oklahoma State scored first as VanNortwick hit a homerun down the left field line in the second inning. The Cowgirls advanced the lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning as Stephanie Nicholson knocked a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Lacy Darity to score from third. Darity got on base with a single bunt to the pitcher, then advanced on a stolen base and wild pitch.

OSU scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the win. Ashleigh Tweed doubled as she laid the ball down the right field line scoring two runs. Then Darity scored another run as she knocked in an RBI when she singled to second base. Nicholson singled to left field scoring Tweed and then Totte singled to right field scoring Scott and Darity, ending the game at 8-0.

Junior Julie Hauck threw 5.1 innings for Tech, giving up four hits and four runs while striking out one batter and walking two. Freshman Sarah Losleben and junior Erin Crawford came in to pitch relief in the sixth inning. Losleben faced three batters, walking one and giving up two hits while Crawford also faced three batters, giving up three hits.

With this loss, the Red Raiders conclude their 2005 season and competition in the Big 12 Softball Tournament.
