LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team improved to 4-0 this fall with victories over Navarro Junior College and Midwestern State last Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field. The Red Raiders defeated Navarro, 3-1, before topping Midwestern State, 9-3.

Back by a 2-for-3 game by Sandy James, Tech was able to hold off Navarro as Ashley Brokeshoulder threw four innings of two-hit ball, allowing only one run to earn the win. Mikey Kenney drove in Tech's first run, scoring Holley Gentsch in the third off an RBI single.

Cydney Allen began a two-run Tech fourth innng with a double to the gap and later scored off James' triple later in the inning. Stephanie Drewry plated Tech's final run with a single to bring in James. Brittany Talley and Kermitria Ward combined to throw three scoreless innings to secure the win.

The Tech bats came to life against Midwestern State as the Red Raiders overcame a 3-0 deficit in the sixth inning to send 12 hitters to the plate en route to scoring all nine runs. Emily Bledsoe and James both had RBI singles in the inning, while Logan Hall added a 2 RBI double and Kenney put the game away with a 3-run home run.

Karli Merlich earned the win in relief, throwing two innings while allowing two runs. Kelsey Dennis got the start in the circle, giving up a run over her four innings. Ward closed the game throwing a scoreless seventh inning to keep the Midwestern State bats at bay.

 

 

The Red Raiders continue their fall schedule Friday afternoon against Howard. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Rocky Johnson Field.
