Feb. 16, 2010
LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Softball, which is off to its best start at 4-1 since the 1998 season, welcomes Maine and UMKC for a weekend tournament at Rocky Johnson Field, but not before christening their new indoor facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"We are really looking forward to showcasing both our team and our new building this weekend," head coach Shanon Hays said. "This building is so huge for our program and we want people to come out and take a look at where we're heading, in terms of being able to recruit to a real first-class facility."
The ribbon cutting will take place on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the new building which is located between the Rocky Johnson Field main entrance and the new Ronald McDonald house, directly south of the University Medical Center off of 10th Street. On Saturday, guests should find parking in the softball/hospital parking lot.
The tournament features a pair of teams who will journey to Lubbock for the first time as Tech will face Maine and Missouri-Kansas City in several games over the weekend in a mini-tournament format. On Friday, Maine and UMKC will play at 11 a.m., followed by Maine and Tech at 1 p.m. and then UMKC plays the Red Raiders at 3 p.m. (The later games will begin approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of each preceding one.)
The schedule times will remain the same for Saturday and on Sunday, Tech and Maine will play at 8:30 a.m. (egad) and the tournament will conclude with a noon Tech-UMKC matchup.
