LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech announced Tuesday changes to this weekend's Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic as the Red Raiders will now open the tournament with a Thursday evening doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
The tournament opener, which was originally scheduled for Friday morning, will pit the Red Raiders against UT Arlington at 5:30 p.m. Thursday evening and then Tech against Northern Colorado in an 8 p.m. first pitch later that night.
The Red Raiders will face New Mexico State at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening in their only game that day before closing the tournament Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader against Northern Colorado and Abilene Christian.
The schedule change was caused due to low temperatures forecasted in the Lubbock area on Saturday.
This is the fourth-straight season where Tech has hosted the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic that honors former athletics department administrator Jeanine McHaney.
Long considered the driving force behind women's athletics at Texas Tech, McHeney served in a variety of roles during her tenure, including the program's first volleyball coach, a position she held for nine seasons, as well as women's athletics director. She continued to be a top athletics administrator at Tech after the men's and women's departments combined before her passing in 1994.
The Red Raiders enter this weekend riding a three-game winning streak after finishing 3-1 in the Texas Tech Invitational, improving to 13-6 on the season in the process.
