LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Softball (19-2) will play host to a pair of teams that, as a program, they have never faced as the Red Raiders welcome Jackston State and North Carolina Central to its final tournament. Games begin on Friday with a JSU versus NCC matchup at 2 p.m., followed by JSU and Texas Tech at 4 p.m. and then NCC versus TTU following that scheduled for 6 p.m. (As softball fans know, times for the second and third games of the day at a tournament are theoretical.) Jackson State brings a 3-10 record to Rocky Johnson Field and is led by sophomore infielder Wendi Reed's .317 average and in the circle by Tynett Sims (1-5) 2.81 earned run average. The Tigers are coached by Kenya Peters. Before making the trek to Lubbock, JSU will face Southern Mississippi for a double header on Wednesday. North Carolina Central (2-9) is led by freshman outfielder Shakemia Edwards' .435 average and in the circle by Kayla McPeek (1-2) with a 7.43 earned run average. The Eagles are coached by Mike Charlton. The team has a double header scheduled with St. Paul's College before coming to the tournament. Tech will compete in only one more pre-conference tournament in Tampa, Fla., from March 19 - 21 (the end of the Spring break week) after this final home event and will host a double header with Texas State on March 16 at noon and 2 p.m. (Think of that one as a "business-person's special" and come on out to the ball park!)
