Texas Tech Gets Good Pitching and Timely Hitting|
March 18, 2009
San Diego - Stephanie Drewry, who led the Big 12 in hits entering today's action with 39, tallied three more and Megan Shupp added a pair of singles of her own to lead Texas Tech (10-24) to a 2-1 win over the Toreros of the University of San Diego on Wednesday evening.
Ashly Jacobs went the distance for the Red Raiders and picked up her 7th win of the season. The junior right hander struck out seven on the afternoon, as USD scattered six hits. Emily Bledsoe and Alex Watkins collected doubles in the win for Tech.
In the longest road trip of the season, an eight-day excursion to the nation's most-livable city, the Red Raiders finished with a 4-6 record. A doubleheader sweep of South Dakota State, a split doubleheader with San Diego State and the win over USD sandwiched a disappointing 0-5 showing at the San Diego Classic II tournament.
The team hosts Baylor on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22, at 2 p.m. and Noon, respectively as the season now shifts to primarily Big 12 play.
Random Note about San Diego Trip: The softball team was chartered around town by the same bus driver who hosted the Texas Tech Baseball team a few weeks ago. Romero proudly wore the TTU hat he had, no doubt, been provided by that team. In a world which often feels too big to measure, but is really too small, too often, this little coincidence seemed sweet.
