LUBBOCK, Texas - Sydni Emanuel became just the second Texas Tech freshman to earn a conference weekly award Tuesday as she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after her stellar performance this past weekend in California.

Emanuel, a native of Missouri City, Texas, hit a team-leading .565 (13-for-23) at both the Titan Classic and the San Diego State Classic where she also came across to score nine times while stealing nine bases as well.

Emanuel joins Amanda Renfro as the only Red Raider freshmen to ever receive a conference weekly award. Renfro was honored as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week twice during her 1998 freshman campaign.

This is the second time this season where a Red Raider has won a Big 12 weekly award as Brittany Talley was named the conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 11. Tech had not had a player honored as the league's Player of the Week since April 3, 2012, when Adriana Perez received the accolade.

Emanuel finished with two or more hits in four of six games last weekend, including a 4-for-4 performance in the Titans Classic finale against host Cal State Fullerton last Friday. Tech's contest with Harvard from Monday did not count toward Emanuel's totals.

Her four hits against the Titans matched her season high from March 6 against UT Arlington. She also totaled two triples on the weekend, including a two-run shot to center field against UNLV that propelled the Red Raiders to a 7-2 victory.

Emanuel totaled a .583 on-base percentage and frustrated opponents on the base paths from there, stealing nine bases to bump her season total to a conference-leading 28 already this season. Emanuel stole at least one base in all six games, including two in three-consecutive games against UNLV, Fullerton and Long Beach State.

The performance moved Emanuel just six stolen bases shy from tying Ashley Parker's 2006 single-season school record. She already ranks second all-time in the category through just 31 games.

Emanuel ended the weekend ranked as the Big 12 leader for hits, runs scored, stolen bases and triples. She is also second in the league with a .447 batting average and third with 62 total bases.

Emanuel will get a chance to continue her hot hitting Wednesday evening when the Red Raiders host North Texas in a 6 p.m. doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
