Softball Opens Big 12 Play|

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The #23 ranked Texas Tech Red Raider softball team will open Big 12 Conference play against Kansas and Missouri this weekend.
On Saturday, Tech will play the University of Kansas in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Jayhawks are 14-19 on the season. The last time Tech faced Kansas, the Jayhawks shutout Tech 7-0 in the first game and won the second 7-4. The Jayhawks have a 1-5 series lead over the Red Raiders.
Sunday, Tech will travel to Columbia, to face #8 ranked Missouri in a doubleheader beginning at noon. The Tigers are 20-5 on the season. Last year, the 1997 Big 12 Champions claimed 10-0 and 10-4 wins over Tech. Missouri holds a 5-0 series record over Tech.
"We are excited to get Big 12 play started. This is probably one of the top conferences in the nation. Six of our teams are nationally ranked. That definitely speaks of the level of play in this league," Texas Tech head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
The Red Raiders are 32-10 on the season and ranked 23 in the nation for the second consecutive week. Freshman pitcher Amanda Renfro leads the team with a record of 11-4 and an earned run average of 0.67. On the other side of the bat, sophomore Christina Munoz is hitting a team high .467
