STILLWATER, Okla. - The Texas Tech softball game at Oklahoma State was postponed Friday evening due to thunderstorms as the two teams were tied 1-1 with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game will be resumed at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Oklahoma State will have runners on first and second with Tarah Ettinger at the plate when play resumes. Ettinger will have a 2-1 count as well as lightning in the area crept in midway through her at-bat.

The Cowgirls had previously tied the game earlier in the inning on a RBI fielder's choice from Tamara Brown that stayed just inside the first-base line. The ground ball popped out of Sandy James' glove and her throw to the plate to try and catch Ari Morrison was too high for Lexie Elkins to make the tag.

James broke up a scoreless game in the top half of the inning with a leadoff home run that sailed over the left field fence. It was her seventh home run of the season and the fourth already for Tech in the series.

Backed by a strong pitching performance from Cara Custer, the Red Raiders had a chance to win the game in the top of the seventh after leadoff singles from both Sydnie Tapia and Samantha Camello.

Cowgirl reliever Simone Freeman came on, though, to strike out both Mikey Kenney and Katelyn Williams while Shelby Johnson popped up a bunt attempt behind the plate.

Custer had surrendered just the one run, which went unearned as a Tech throwing error put Morrison on to begin the eighth, off three hits and two hits while striking out five. She earned the start for the second-straight day after limiting OSU to just two hits in the series opener.

Like Custer, Kat Espinosa returned to the circle for the second-straight day as she gave up six hits and struck out seven before Freeman relieved her with no outs in the seventh inning.

The series finale between the two teams will begin roughly 30 minutes following the completion of the first game Saturday.
