Coming off its first victory over Kansas since 2006, and winning three out of its last four games, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the Mean Green of North Texas on Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT, at Rocky Johnson Field. This will be the fifth ever meeting between the two schools, with the series split at two games each.
Watkins Lets Loose
Senior Red Raider Alex Watkins is currently on a five-game hitting streak, and has a hit safely in 10 out of the last 11 games. Watkins has 14 hits, 11 RBIs, four doubles, and three home runs over the course of those 11 games.
Jacobs Strikes Out Season High Eight Batters
Against Kansas, junior pitcher Ashly Jacobs struck out a season-high eight batters in a strong performance giving up only two runs on six hits in the complete game.
Eimen Executes Efficiently
Senior Elizabeth Eimen is currently on an seven game hitting streak, while batting a team-high .377 with 46 hits on the season.
Hanging In There
The Red Raider pitching staff has already thrown 23 complete games this season, the most from any staff going back to 2004 when the total was 26.
Drewry Ropes First Career Triple
Freshman Stephanie Drewry roped her first ever triple against Kansas into the right field corner.
Ahead of Last Years Pace
Going in to game 42 against North Texas, the Red Raiders are still one game ahead of last years pace with a record of 13-29. At this point in 2008, Tech had a record of 13-30 and finished out the season winning 10 of the remaining 16 games to finish 23-36.
Scouting North Texas
The Mean Green enter this weekend with an overall record of 20-18. Over the weekend, North Texas went 1-2 in a three-game series with Middle Tennessee. This year, the Mean Green are 2-4 against the Big 12 picking up wins over Iowa State and Baylor and dropping contest to Oklahoma State (2), Baylor, and Texas. UNT is led by Mallory Cantler hitting .404 with 33 hits and 22 RBIs.
