LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletics Department is encouraging fans to pack Rocky Johnson Field this weekend as the Red Raiders host No. 1 Oklahoma in a three-game series that begins at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
The series marks the first time Tech has ever hosted the top-ranked team in the nation as the Sooners travel to Lubbock as the unanimous No. 1 team after a 34-2 start to their season, including a 3-0 mark in Big 12 play.
"This is a big weekend for our ball club,' Tech head coach Shanon Hays said. "It's important for us to get off to a good start in the series, so we hope fans will start their Friday evening at the ballpark before heading to watch the football team. We've had success against Oklahoma in the past and hopefully we'll play well in front of our home fans."
Friday's series opener will be Greek Challenge night as the fraternity or sorority with the most members in attendance will receive a party later in the season. Fans who purchase tickets for the game will also receive complimentary admission into Saturday's 4 p.m. contest.
Tech football coach Kliff Kingsbury will begin Sunday's action as the first-year head coach will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the 12 p.m. start. All kids in attendance can run the bases following the game as well.
Fans can purchase tickets at the Rocky Johnson Field gate with prices at $5 for adults and $3 for non-Tech students ages 18 and under. All Tech students will receive free admission by showing their student ID.
