Aucoin Repeats As Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Gretchen Aucoin was honored once again Tuesday as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

April 29, 2014

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore Gretchen Aucoin was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the second-consecutive week on Tuesday after picking up a pair of wins last weekend against Iowa State.

Aucoin is the first conference player to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks this season and the first since former Oklahoma standout Keilani Ricketts received the accolade on both April 23 and April 30 last year.

This is the third conference weekly award of the year for Aucoin which marks the most for a Red Raider in single-season school history. Tech has now earned five Big 12 weekly awards this year, the most in program history and second-most in the conference this season.

Aucoin was almost flawless in the circle against Iowa State, tossing 10.0 innings where she failed to allow an earned run. Dating back to the final two games of the Kansas series (April 18-19), Aucoin has not allowed an earned run in her last 17.1 innings. It is the longest consecutive innings streak without allowing an earned run in her career.

The Ocean Springs, Miss. native allowed just five hits against a Cyclones club that ranks second in the Big 12 with a .325 batting average. She closed the weekend 2-0 in the circle with a perfect 0.00 ERA in two complete game performances.

Aucoin has earned the win in each of her last six appearances in the circle, improving her to 14-7 on the year with a 1.99 ERA in the process. Her 14 wins are tied for ninth in single-season school history while her 1.99 ERA currently ranks fourth in the Big 12.

On top of her work in the circle, Aucoin was also vital at the plate as well, hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a pair of home runs and five RBI. She now has seven home runs on the season, five of which that have come during league play which is tied for the conference high entering this week.

Her performance helped lead the Red Raiders to their third-straight Big 12 series victory, a feat that had not previously been accomplished since late in the 1998 season.

The Red Raiders close the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at No. 12 Oklahoma. The series gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at Marisa Hynes Field in Norman.
