LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Athletics invites fans to be a part of its Cinco de Mayo celebrations on Saturday, beginning with the Red Raider softball series opener against Oklahoma State.

The 23rd-ranked Red Raiders are scheduled to open their three-game series against the Cowgirls with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Rocky Johnson Field. Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy mariachis during pregame festivities and then participate in Twitter trivia during the game to win prizes.

Saturday's game will also be Senior Day as Tech will recognize its eight seniors following the game. Those that buy a ticket for Saturday's contest will also receive complementary admission into Sunday's 2 p.m. game. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students under 18.

From there, fans can head to the South Plains Fairgrounds for the Magic 93.7 22nd-annual Cinco de Mayo celebration where the Red Raider football, volleyball, and soccer teams will be on hand from 4-6 p.m. to provide free promotional items as well as sign autographs.

The all-day celebration will also include activities such as a custom car show, kids' area, food booths, and several outdoor contests. Admission is $10 and all kids 12 and under get in free.

Cinco De Mayo refers to the Battle of Puebla, where the Mexican army defeated French invaders on May 5, 1862. This victory illustrated that Latin America had the strength and the will to defend itself from foreign intervention.
