OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Texas Tech's 2009 softball season came to a close when Oklahoma State over-powered the Red Raiders, 7-0, in the first round of the Big 12 Championship event.

Alex Watkins (4-18) took the loss in thc circle for Tech as the senior right-hander gave up seven runs on seven hits and issued six walks while striking out a Cowgirl in five innings of work. Freshman southpaw Karli Merlich pitched well in relief, giving up a hit in an inning of work.

Tech managed to collect seven hits, led by a pair each from table-setters Stephanie Drewry and Leah Legler, but the Red Raiders were unable to capitalize, stranding eight on the night. Emily Bledsoe, Holley Gentsch and Ashley Hamada, all freshmen, collected the remaining hits for Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders, who suffered key injuries and make-shift lineups throughout the season, concluded the difficult 2009 season with a 15-42 record.
