LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second consecutive season, the Red Raider softball team has had a first team All-Midwest Region selection. This time it was freshman Sandy Butler of Tucson, Ariz. who garnered the award. The honor will allow Butler to compete for All-America honors.
Butler led the Tech squad in batting with a .352 average. She had team and Big 12 Conference highs in hits with 75 and runs with 48. Butler also led Tech in stolen bases with 26. She is the current school record holder in stolen bases and stolen base attempts in a single season.
In centerfield, Butler collected 46 putouts and three assists while only recording two errors. She had an overall fielding percentage of .961 and a Big 12 percentage of 1.00.
Earlier this season, Butler was selected to the All-Big 12 first team and was an Academic All-Big 12 honorable mention pick.
"We are thrilled for Sandy. She had a great season and really helped us out on offense. We expect a lot of exciting things out of her in the coming years," Texas Tech Head Coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
Last season Tech third baseman Kim Martinez was selected to the All-Midwest Region first team.
