LUBBOCK, Texas - Mikey Kenney was honored on the All-Big 12 postseason teams for the third time in her career Tuesday as the senior was named to the conference second team in a vote by the league coaches.
Kenney wrapped her illustrious career in scarlet and black with her best season to date as she hit .354 with 13 home runs and 47 RBI. She snapped the Tech single-season record with 43 walks and was just the second Red Raider to ever record an on-base percentage over .500 thanks to her .509 mark.
"Mikey had what I think was her best season at Texas Tech," head coach Shanon Hays said. "She hit the ball really well and provided great leadership for us in centerfield. We'll obviously miss Mikey in our lineup next season, but I couldn't be prouder of what she accomplished here at Texas Tech."
Kenney, who also earned second team honors as a freshman in 2010 and then first team accolades a year ago, is just the fifth Tech player to be honored three times in a career, joining Emily Bledsoe (2010-12), Ashley Parker (2004, 2006-07), Amanda Renfro (1998, 2000-01) and Sandy Butler (1998-01).
The Arvada, Colo. native wrapped the regular season among the Big 12 leaders in nearly every offensive category, including runs scored, home runs, doubles, RBI, total bases, walks, on-base percentage and slugging percentage.
Kenney ends her tenure as Tech's career leader for home runs (45) and runs scored (197) and ranks second for hits (215) and walks (112), third for batting average (.326), doubles (40), at-bats (660) and stolen bases (47) as well as sixth all-time for games played (226).
The All-Big 12 teams along with the conference postseason honors were selected in a vote by the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.
