Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team received a bid to the 1999 NCAA Softball Division 1 Championships in Fresno, California. This will mark the first visit for the Texas Tech softball program in postseason play.

The Red Raiders (33-29) will take part in the 48 team field that will include seven of ten Big 12 schools that play softball. Eight six-team regionals comprise the 48 team field.

Tech has been seeded fifth in the Fresno regional that will take place on the Fresno State University campus. Texas Tech will face second-seeded South Carolina, of the Southeastern Conference, in the first-round game that is scheduled for Thursday, May 20. Joining the Red Raiders in the Fresno regional will be the defending national champion Fresno State Bulldogs. Fresno State defeated Arizona in last years Women's College World Series to bring home the national title. Third-seeded Stanford, fourth-seeded Pacific and sixth-seeded Florida A&M round out the six teams.

Earlier in the season, Tech defeated Pacific 1-0, 8-0 and fell to Stanford 0-1. Texas Tech has not faced Fresno State, South Carolina or Florida A&M in the program's four-year history.
