LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech infielder Paula Workman was named to softball's GTE Academic All-America third team earlier today. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A dietetics major from Spicewood, Texas, Workman has maintained a 4.0 GPA for the past four semesters. She was honored earlier this season with the Dr. Margaret E. Wilson Academic Achievement Award, selected to the Academic All-Big 12 team and named to the President's Honor Roll.

This season Workman started in 57 of Tech's 64 games. She had a team high seven homeruns and an overall batting average of .310. In the field, Workman notched 68 putouts, while leading the team in assists with 132.

"This is a great honor for Paula. She is an exemplary student-athlete who works hard on the diamond and in the classroom. We expect more great things out of her in the coming years," Texas Tech Head Coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said.
