LUBBOCK, Texas - Already one of the top lineups in the nation, Texas Tech looks to be getting an additional boost in 2012 from signee Adriana Perez, who was named Friday the Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year for California junior colleges.
The award, which is presented annually by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), marks the second-straight year Perez has been honored by the organization after earning the accolade as a freshman at Antelope Valley College.
Backed by a .500 average, Perez drove in 63 RBI while crushing 17 home runs as a sophomore to help lead the Marauders to their seventh-straight Foothills Conference title. She concluded the year ranked second in RBI, third in hits and home runs, and sixth in batting average among California junior colleges.
The stellar season follows an impressive freshman campaign where the Palmdale, Calif. native hit .567 on the year with 15 home runs and 57 RBI, earning California Junior College Player of the Year honors in the process.
Perez is one of five future student-athletes who signed with the Red Raiders last fall, joining Hannah Bell, Cara Custer, Chandler Moore and Katelyn Williams.
