LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off their fourth straight 30-win season under head coach Shanon Hays, the Texas Tech softball program opened fall practices Monday afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field.
Unlike previous seasons, Tech will have a fresh set of new faces across the diamond as fall practice begins. The Red Raiders return four position starters in Katelyn Williams, Sydnie Tapia, Taylor Powell and Samantha Camello and just 12 letterwinners in all.
"This will be a different type of fall for us because we have a lot of freshmen and new kids across the diamond," said Hays, the winningest coach in program history. "We have a lot of work to do to get ready for this spring, but I like the makeup of this team. We will be young but possibly one of the more talented clubs I've had here."
The Red Raiders are able to work out multiple times a week as a team in the fall while also playing exhibition games over five dates as well.
Tech kicks off its fall slate on Oct. 5 when the Red Raiders travel to Abilene Christian to face both the Wildcats and Weatherford College.
